Rumi: I Want a Trouble-Maker for a Lover… Who Burns Like Fire On The Rushing Sea

August 22, 2014

“I want a trouble-maker for a lover:

Blood spiller, blood drinker, a heart of flame,

Who quarrels with the sky, and fights with fate,

Who burns like fire on the rushing sea.”

#862: From Rumi’s Kolliyaat-e Shams-e Tabrizi
Edited by Badiozzaman Forouzanfar (Tehran, Amir Kabir, 1988).
from the website The Iranian

This is why I threw my sage crown in the fire and I married The Man in 1992,
and why, in 2001, I participated in the wedding ceremony conducted by Rob Breszny
where several hundred of us married The Man,
and why in 2003, after attending Burning Man together twice, I married my husband,
and why in 2011, we had a re-commitment ceremony on the pier at Burning Man
…and why we are going again this year.

Read here about my experiences in the early days of Burning Man.
