This image is from Burning Man 2007 (see my blogroll); it is an art installation by Peter Hudson called Homouroboros which was the talk of the playa.

If you search for monkeys here, there are other pictures, links, and info on this blog or go here, here and here

Homouroboros will be on display in San Jose, California from May 15-June 16 2008.

Here a snippet from the press release:

The Black Rock Arts Foundation today confirmed plans to install a 24-foot tall, 30-foot diameter zoetrope built by artist Peter Hudson as part of the second bi-annual Zero One San Jose festival in May 2008. The art piece, called Homouroboros, depicts 18 life-sized monkeys swinging from branches and a serpent-like hand feeding apples to the monkeys.

The installation opens in the Discovery Meadow opens on May 15 before the Zero One San Jose (01SJ) festival, and closes on June 16 shortly afterwards. The exhibition is free of charge. A special dedication event will be hosted by BRAF from -9pm on Saturday May 17. The 01SJ festival, which is North America’s newest and largest digit arts festival, takes place from June 4-6 in multiple locations around downtown San Jose.

Very cool. Homouroboros, love it. How cool you get to go to Burning Man every year. My friend from college claims to have been at the first one ever, but I don’t know if that’s really true. Siunds good, but how does one really know what which one was the first?

there’s an amazing slide show which shows hoty they oncstructed it; it’s linked there at the top.

i’ve been 10 times since 1992–not exactly every year!

“the first one” hard to say what your friend might mean. first one at black rock desert? the very first one at baker beach with larry harvey and a handful of his closest friends?
