poetry by e.e. cummings: “i thank You God for most this amazing”

February 15, 2010

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and love and wings; and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any – lifted from the no
of all nothing – human merely being
doubt imaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake
and now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

Because of recent traumatic events in my family, this poem is particularly poignant and meaningful to me today. My husband narrowly escaped death 10 days ago; he is in the 5% who survive breaking a c2 vertebra. He not only survived but  he can walk and move and wipe his own butt and has a 75% chance of a full recovery. Please visualize with me his bones as a beautiful mosaic held together with love and as healing and growing.

This is a great moment to celebrate life. I am sure he will recover totally.
I’ll hold you in my thoughts.

Thank you, everyone. I’m glad you enjoyed the poem. I hope to get back to posting more of my own (and just posting again in general!) Thank you for your support and your prayers during this challenging time.
