Jim Turner: Never Fear, Genuine is Here! Or how to pay your mortgage by blogging

September 12, 2009

Jim Turner – “Blogging For A Living”

Jim began blogging in early 2004 and soon became very passionate about blogging. His passion grew to the point where he wondered how he could take this passion and turn it into a business or a way to make a living to support his family, or at least supplement his income.

Jim started as a Daddy Blogger, writing about changing diapers and day to day life as a dad, just a guy who loved talking about his kids…who found an audience.

And now he’s paying his mortgage and making a living blogging.

How did he do it? He’s a pro-blogger, writing and blogging and providing content to corporate clients.

And I will tell you as soon as he tells me! So stay tuned!

Who are the companies hiring bloggers?

Large companies: in communications, marketing, PR, advertising, using blogging to get their message across, looking for bloggers to help them.

Companies are begging for people who know how to personal blog.

Smaller companies, like start-ups, can use bloggers in all departments, all areas.

Blogging networks offer p/t, small pay, per post pay, shared revenue offerings.

How many bloggers are out there? 452,000, just 100,000 less than there are lawyers.

Job Description & Duties: Return on Investment

Content: Writing, videocast, podcast, livecast
Evangelist: passion & message
Conversing: comments, email, networks
Monitoring: data mining, conversations
Reporting: analytics
Money: salary, expense, budgets vary, new profession which lacks guidelines and a blogger union. Companies are asking within, “How can we get our company to blog?”
Shoot for the moon, bloggers! That’s what Jim Turner recommends.
Companies need you, want you–give it to them! And get them to pay you what you’re worth rather than hiring the college kid down the street.
Remind the companies that are afraid that they can’t control the message–whether they think they can or not. The period of broadcasting your message to a receptive audience is long over. If your audience wants to hear your message, they will choose to watch your videos on YouTube and read your blog posts.
Payment ranges from $30,000-$130,00. It needs to be part of their social media aspect of their budget. Need to prove why what you have to offer is better than what the company is already doing or can do–that your ramp-up time will be quick. They don’t want to pay you to learn about the industry.
Jim Turner does not like ghost bloggers. Everyone who works with him blogs under their own names. He doesn’t believe in ghost blogging. It’s an epic fail as far as he’s concerned. The presentation will be up on slideshare.
